Bristol City could have another Alex Scott situation on their hands if their new manager Liam Manning can keep two players at the club happy.
Manning has a big job on his hands replacing Nigel Pearson who had seemingly stabilised the club but as well as that it is his first time managing in the Championship.
The Robins are comfortably in mid-table going into the international break but they are just four points off the play-off places, so there is a sense of hope that promotion may be a slight possibility.
So Manning will need to make sure his new side doesn't fall away but there is something else that he must manage to make sure he gets off to a good start.
Two players who are key players for Bristol City this season are Tommy Conway and Sam Bell.
Bell was thrust into the starting line-up midway through the last campaign and since then he has not lost his spot on the left wing, the 21-year-old has also featured in a central position on numerous occasions.
Conway had a fine 22/23 season as he scored nine league goals and since he recovered from his hamstring injury which he suffered in the first game against Preston, he has featured in every game.
He is also 21 years old and has made the striker position his own so with this pair there is plenty of optimism for supporters when they watch Bristol City.
The example that Manning needs to use is what happened with Scott at Bristol City as he was another very highly-rated youngster who came through the youth academy at the club.
Scott made his senior debut in 2021 and 91 appearances later he left in 2023 for a club-record fee which was £25 million according to The Guardian.
He joined Bournemouth and has since played four games for the club whilst making his Premier League debut.
At just 20-years-old there is still so much potential for the midfielder to develop in the best league in the world and there will be no doubt that some other top Premier League sides will be paying attention to how he gets on.
A Championship club receiving such a sum of money emphasises just how well they have done developing players and the fact there is a chance the player can go to the very top is massively important for Conway and Bell.
They have seen Scott get his move to the Premier League which will make them feel at ease as they know if an offer does come in they can leave, so if they are content whilst they are at the club, not a lot can go wrong.
Manning must persist with the young pairing as they still have so much development to go and if they carry on progressing the club could yet again get a big transfer fee for their youth talents.
