Bristol Rovers have some famous faces among their fanbase - including Maya Jama

Bristol Rovers will be looking to improve on last season's 15th-placed finish in League One in Matt Taylor's first full campaign in the Gas dugout.

A whole host of arrivals have been welcomed across the summer, including the likes of Ruel Sotriou, Promise Omochere, Jake Garrett, Lino Sousa and Isaac Hutchinson.

The latter is perhaps the most eye-catching after emerging among the finest players in League Two with Walsall in the 2023/24 campaign. It will be hoped that attacking midfielder Hutchinson can help to offset the departure of Antony Evans, who was exceptional at the Memorial Stadium but has since left for promotion hopefuls Huddersfield Town.

Many more will be looking to play their part, though, with Rovers having endured a mixed bag of results in their opening third-tier encounters.

Generally speaking and relative to size, Rovers are well-followed and almost invariably make a racket and take strong numbers wherever they go, which was particularly notable in their first-round Carabao Cup defeat at Cardiff City in August.

However, there are a few famous faces among that fanbase and Football League World has decided to take a look at three 'celebrity' supporters who count themselves in the Gas faithful.

Maya Jama

Undoubtedly the pick of the bunch here when it comes to assessing fame, renowned TV presenter and DJ Maya Jama is a self-confessed Rovers supporter - despite being friends with ex-Bristol City star Bobby De Cordova-Reid

Jama, who has presented shows such as Love Island and was formerly in a relationship with British grime artist Stormzy, previously voiced her support for the Gas when participating in a series called 'Football Virgins'.

There, Jama was asked to select a team to support and opted with Rovers, citing family reasons.

She said: "I went with Bristol Rovers because I am from Bristol.

"My family support Bristol Rovers, that's their local team."

Jama is perhaps not the most ardent Gas fan out there, but her support for her family's team remains clear and she is up there with the most high-profile supporters of a League One team.

Roni Size

Meanwhile, well-known Bristolian DJ and producer Roni Size has made little secret of his support to the team over the years, having featured in Gas charity matches.

Size is very popular around Bristol and once voiced his allegiances at a Nelson Mandela exhibition with anti-racism organisation Kick It Out, while taking a cheeky swipe at the Robins. Size said: "I’ve been supporting Bristol Rovers all my life. There’s only one team in Bristol as far as I’m concerned.

"Bristol is well known for having that edge of racism in some parts of the city. I feel I have made a difference because of my musical journey."

Jeffrey Archer

Former politician and novelist Jeffrey Archer is known to be a lifelong Rovers fans and has previously spoken about the joys of following his local team, having spent his childhood growing up in nearby Weston Super-Mare.

He said: "I'm a man who is used to losing. Over the years I've supported Bristol Rovers and Somerset County Cricket Club.
