Bristol Rovers are said to be closing on a deal to bring former Rotherham United midfielder Jamie Lindsay to the club.

That’s according to Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke, who has claimed that the 28-year-old is set for a medical today ahead of making the move to the Memorial Ground.

Celtic youth product Lindsay is available on a free transfer, having seen his contract at the New York Stadium come to an end last month, after five years with the Yorkshire outfit.

The update with the Gas will be a blow to fellow third tier side Wrexham, who were said to be monitoring the midfielder back in January, with the Red Dragons said to have been keeping an eye on his situation this summer.

With a deal all but complete for Lindsay to make the move to the south west, Matt Taylor looks to have fought off reported interest from Wrexham for the 28-year-old’s signature.

The Scot has a wealth of experience under his belt, and will add plenty of quality into the Gas’ engine room for the upcoming campaign, given his credentials in both the second and third tier in the past.

Having come up through the ranks at Parkhead, Lindsay experienced a number of loans as he began his journey into the professional game, with time spent at Dumbarton, Morton and Ross County, before making a permanent switch to the latter in 2018.

After just one season with the Dingwall side, Lindsay made the move to join the Millers, and established himself as a reliable performer in the middle of the park.

With two promotions from League One already under his belt, the Scot knows exactly what it takes to get out of the third tier, while his 92 matches at Championship level prove he is more than capable of performing with the best of the EFL.

The midfielder found himself on the fringes of the Millers’ squad during the previous campaign, as he started just 12 matches as they dropped back into League One, with his only goal of the season coming in a 3-2 defeat to Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.

With Lindsay deciding against renewing his deal with the Yorkshire side, he was free to move on this summer, with Rovers looking like his chosen destination.

The 28-year-old will be well-known to Rovers boss Matt Taylor, having played under his management during the previous two campaigns, before the former Exeter City man was given the axe by the Millers in November.

Taylor has started to put together a strong looking squad ahead of the upcoming League One campaign, with a number of stars joining the club this summer.

The Gas have added the likes of Ruel Sotiriou [pictured] to their ranks during the off-season, with the Cypriot striker going the club after leaving divisional rivals Leyton Orient, while Isaac Hutchinson was purchaed from League Two Walsall in what looks to be a smart investment.

Rovers have also added to their defensive ranks in the past few weeks, with Clinton Mola and Joel Senior joining from Reading and Morecambe respectively, while Bryant Bilongo and Dan Ellison have signed from Middlesbrough and Chippenham Town.
