Bruno Duarte is set to make his Vasco debut against Fluminense at the Maracanã on Saturday at 21:00 in the Campeonato Brasileiro. If he scores, he would join a select group, as only two debutant centre-forwards have found the net since 2021.
Per Globo.com, he has had a full week of training after being registered for Cruzeiro last weekend but short of ideal fitness following travel. He is now available to Pedro Emanuel.
Raniel and Vegetti are the only centre-forwards to score on debut in that period. Raniel netted against Volta Redonda in the 2022 Carioca, while the Argentine struck against Grêmio in the 2023 league.
Others needed longer. Pedro Raul drew a blank against Portuguesa-RJ in 2023, and Rayan and GB did not score against Audax-RJ. In 2026, Brenner debuted against Madureira in a goalless draw.
Spinelli’s first game was against Bahia, a 1-0 defeat, and Colidio also failed to score against Santos in a 3-0 loss. Sebastián Ferreira, Clayton Silva, Fábio Gomes, Daniel Amorim and Getúlio likewise went without a goal on debut.
Duarte said he is eager to step on the pitch, that matchdays with supporters are different, and that he aims to work patiently and hard to arrive prepared for Saturday.
The 30-year-old arrives after spells in Portugal, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Serbia. He scored 42 and assisted 14 in 98 for Red Star Belgrade, 23 and 10 in 98 for Vitória de Guimarães, and 14 and four in 36 for Farense. He has been signed to add goals and prefers to target at least one per match, game by game.
