Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes produced a top performance yet again, but it wasn’t enough as the team was held to a 4-4 draw by Bournemouth.

United earn a point

United enjoyed a fast start to the game at Old Trafford, creating goalscoring opportunities and pinning Bournemouth back inside their own half.

The Red Devils got a deserved lead when Amad headed in on the goal line after an excellent delivery from Diogo Dalot. United should have scored more but they were level when Antoine Semenyo capitalised on a mistake from Luke Shaw and Mason Mount to beat Senne Lammens.

United responded well and restored their advantage through Casemiro just before the break.

However, Ruben Amorim’s men collapsed immediately after the restart, surrendering the initiative to a resurgent Bournemouth.

The visitors were level again when Evanilson broke into the box and fired into the bottom corner. Things went from bad to worse for United when Bournemouth went ahead from a Marcus Tavernier free-kick after a Casemiro foul.

United refused to stay down and got back to it. Fernandes restored parity with a stunning free-kick from the edge of the box before Matheus Cunha completed the comeback when he finished a fine piece of play. It looked like United had clinched all three points but there was another twist when substitute Eli Junior Kroupi scored another equaliser to ensure the spoils were shared.

Fernandes’ performance

As he has so often, Fernandes delivered a brilliant performance, and United can thank their skipper for salvaging a point from the contest.

Beyond his sublime strike, Fernandes completed 41 of the 52 passes he completed. 11 of these were delivered into the final third. He touched the ball 79 times.

The Portuguese playmaker registered an impressive 10 defensive contributions. He created five chances and managed six crosses.

Fernandes fired three total shots and assisted Casemiro’s goal.

The 31-year-old certainly deserved to be on the winning side. For him and his teammates, all attention now shifts to Aston Villa.
