Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is a keen admirer of West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes, according to The Telegraph.
United are preparing for life without Casemiro and could also be without Manuel Ugarte next season.
They could end up signing three new midfielders and have been watching the West Ham players ahead of a potential summer swoop.
The 21-year-old only joined the Hammers from Southampton last summer, but could be on his way out even if they stay up.
United may need to pay £80 million to sign Fernandes if West Ham are not relegated. However, around £50m could be enough if the Hammers drop into the Championship.
While Fernandes could end up with back-to-back relegations on his CV, his talents and huge potential cannot be denied.
He is strong in possession under pressure and at winning the ball back. He also boasts bags of stamina.
Fernandes is a progressive passer, and his Man United namesake has been impressed while training alongside him for Portugal.
The 31-year-old wants assurances over the club’s ambitions before committing his future, and signing quality players this summer could be enough to convince him.
He would love to play alongside players capable of taking Man United to the next level, and he is convinced the West Ham ace is one of them.
The club will look to challenge for the Premier League title next season after an impressive run of form under interim manager Michael Carrick.
He is expected to be appointed as the permanent boss in the coming weeks, and the summer transfer window would give him the chance to strengthen the squad.
