Bruno Fernandes has called on Manchester United to be more brave and aggressive after their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Phil Foden’s opener and a double from Erling Haaland secured a comfortable win for City at the Etihad Stadium.

And skipper Fernandes says the goals his side conceded were avoidable – highlighting the first goal as an example of that.

“I was trying to press Rodri because the info for the game was for one of the midfielders to jump on Rodri and one of the defenders jumping on Foden,” he explained to Sky Sports.

“In the first I can cover both and then Leny decides to come up. When I look at him I sees he comes up so I try to go a little bit more towards Rodri. Gvardiol does a good pass to Foden and Leny was going backwards. Because of a miscommunication we end up giving too much space for them to go up the pitch.

“That’s what I mean, I think when we go we need to take more risks. We have to be more brave with the last line to be a little bit more high.

“If you see City, every time that we pass the ball backwards to our centre-backs, they go three against three and their line squeezes so much and it’s very difficult to play through the lines because the space between them is very narrow.

“The result is very bad, very bad on us but I think it’s two ways of looking at this game. The goals could have been avoided. On the ball we were very positive, very brave, we were playing the ball forward. When we created chances we could have been more clean.

“We wanted what City got and that’s the three points. City were smart to get the goals in the way they did, they have a very good team and good players.”
