Bruno Fernandes matches unwanted red card record against Wolves to leave Ruben Amorim 'frustrated' | OneFootball

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has admitted he was "frustrated" to see Bruno Fernandes shown a red card in Thursday's 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The United captain was shown his second yellow card just two minutes into the second half, completely changing the tide of the game as goals from Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan handed the Red Devils another crushing defeat.

It was the third red card Fernandes has been shown this season following dismissals against Tottenham Hotspur and Porto, the first of which was later rescinded upon appeal. Not since Nemanja Vidic in 2008/09 has a United player seen red so many times in a single season.

While Amorim admitted his anger towards Fernandes' early departure from the game, he refused to be too critical of the midfielder for what he felt was simply a mistake.

"I will always be frustrated with a red card, but it can happen," Amorim told the media.

"He wanted to go for the ball. It's not like he wanted to stop a play with a yellow - he wants to go to the ball. The other guy touched the ball first, and there was a contact. That thing is tough on him, also."
