Bruno Fernandes named in Premier League Team of the Week after his heroics in win vs. Leicester City | OneFootball

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been named in Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week, following his stellar performance in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.

Fernandes provided the assists for both of United’s first two goals before getting on the score sheet himself in stoppage time with a thumping finish.

Despite United’s woes this term, their skipper has been in fine form, netting an impressive six goals and providing 14 assists across all competitions.

In the Premier League alone, Fernandes has 17 goal contributions to his name in 28 appearances.

Since the turn of the year, Fernandes has found the back of the net 10 times and created an additional five assists. At the moment, he’s averaging a goal or an assist every 102 minutes of play.

Fernandes’ exploits at the King Power Stadium earned him a spot on Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week.

On why he picked the United playmaker, Shearer noted, “A real captain’s performance. Scored his eighth goal of the season and set up Hojlund and Garnacho for United’s first two goals.”

Fernandes has also been included in WhoScored.com’s Team of the Week, as part of a midfield three also consisting of Omar Marmoush (Manchester City) and Andreas Pereira (Fulham).

Fernandes is the only player in WhoScored.com’s XI with a higher average rating of more than nine.

Interestingly, WhoScored.com have also named him in their European Team of the Week. Again, no one ranks higher than him in the average rating.

It has been a remarkable few days for the United captain, who is nearly single-handedly preventing his team from suffering further humiliation this season.

As United look to finish the campaign strongly and achieve Europa League glory, Fernandes will undoubtedly play a pivotal role.
