Bruno Genesio has left his role as Lille head coach at the end of his two-year contract. The club said in a statement that his next destination and the identity of his successor are not yet known.
The exit had been anticipated in recent weeks and brings to a close two convincing seasons for the 59-year-old.
The successor could be announced at a late-week press conference to be held by president Olivier Létang.
In his first season he shone in Europe, beating Real 1-0 then winning 3-1 in Madrid against Atlético after navigating qualifying rounds. Lille finished among the top eight after the league phase, then lost to Borussia Dortmund and missed a first-ever quarter-final.
One of 2024-25’s big regrets was a failed league run-in that denied a return to the Champions League.
In 2025-26 they recovered from a start to the year with one win in 10 across all competitions to clinch Champions League qualification with a third-place finish. Genesio received a one-match suspension amid winter frustration at refereeing.
He also faced personal blows, including the Crans-Montana fire affecting someone close, criticism after the Aston Villa game in the Europa League, and later the death of his father Salvatore.
He spoke of natural resilience and praised the squad and club values, calling 2025-26 extraordinary given the slump and the seventh-highest wage bill in Ligue 1. He helped Ayyoub Bouaddi emerge and strengthened his standing in French football.
