Bruno Guimaraes went off with an ankle problem as Newcastle led 2-0 against PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night, putting his involvement in Paris on 28 January in doubt.
The Brazilian was replaced at 45+3 after a blow to his right ankle from Frenchman Kiliann Sildillia. “His ankle has swollen. His withdrawal is worrying, but hopefully it is not too serious,” said Eddie Howe to TNT Sports.
Newcastle’s captain was limping as he left the pitch. It is not certain he will be fit for the 8th and final league-phase match at the Parc des Princes against PSG.
Guimaraes has been among Newcastle’s standout players since arriving from Lyon in 2022, and that has continued this season.
The PSV fixture formed part of matchday 7 of the Champions League league phase.
