The media in Brazil seemingly getting excellent access to the various national team players, this time Bruno Guimaraes talking to Globo Esporte.

Bruno Guimaraes turned 27 on Saturday and this time asked about claims of a potential move to Manchester City, these rumours on the back of Rodri’s injury and the Man City recent results, plus Pep Guardiola having previously said how much he admired the Newcastle midfielder.

Bruno Guimaraes interviewed by Globo Esporte and asked about claims/rumours linking him with Manchester City and past comments/praise for him from Pep Guardiola:

“I believe that at my club I am an idol and I have a lot of respect.

“I am the captain of Newcastle and it is something that if you had asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League.

“Playing, being an idol, being captain is something wonderful. I really like Newcastle.

“Of course, having Manchester City suggestions shows that I am at a high level, but it was nothing more than suggestions.

“I know that Guardiola likes my football, it is normal to have great coaches who admire your football [when you have played well].

“We have spoken once after the interview, I praised his work, he praised my work, but it was nothing more than that.”

Bruno Guimaraes asked about his position in the team, for both Newcastle United and Brazil:

“At Newcastle, I’ve been playing first as a defensive midfielder for three years now and I’m fully adapted.

“I always do it at the club and it’s easier for me.

“Obviously, I can play as a number 8.

“I’ve played as a number 10 at Athletico and I feel good in any position in the middle.

“I feel comfortable as a number 5, which is the role I’ve been playing here with the national team. I feel comfortable, I’ve been enjoying myself in the last few games, my level has improved a lot.

“I’m happy and I believe that the national team, despite the draw with Venezuela, which we deserved to win, is improving well. We’re creating more, which was lacking in the Copa América. We could talk about the smaller pitch [when playing on smaller American Football pitches during Copa America in the summer] and all that, but now the national team is creating enough to deserve the victory.

The importance and influence of the midfield:

“The midfield is essential to any team.

“It’s the heart of the team.

“It’s what makes you defend, what makes you attack, and it’s the team’s transition.

“Especially with the fast attack we have [in the Brazil team]. It’s about getting the ball to the attack and protecting the back.

“The midfield is the heart of the team. When the midfield is doing well, the team’s chance of playing well is very high.”

Bruno Guimaraes asked about celebrating his 27th birthday (on Saturday 16 November) away from his family:

“To be honest, I’m already used to it.

“It’s my fourth birthday with the national team, since it always falls [during the November internationals].

“I’m happy to come here every time, to be wearing the national team’s jersey, it’s where I’ve always wanted to be. I’m getting used to it.

“It was really cool to be here with my teammates. Many of them are my friends.

“So, I’m really happy and, as I asked for when I ate the cake, I hope that the victory [against Uruguay]will be my birthday present.”
