Bruno Henrique struck late to ensure Flamengo avoided defeat at Atlético Goianiense on the opening day of the 2022 Brasileirão.
Scorers: Rato 75′; Henrique 84′
Manager Paulo Sousa opted for a 3-5-2 formation in his first league game of his tenure with the Rubro-Negro, with LĂ©o Pereira, David Luiz and Willian ArĂŁo making up an unconvincing back three.
It looked like the visitors had gotten off to a dreadful start when Wellington Rato netted in the third minute, but a VAR review saved Flamengo as Shaylon was found to be have been offside in the build up.
Rato would not be denied with a quarter of an hour remaining, however, as he met Dudu’s cross from the right flank with a precise left-footed finish.
Flamengo reacted positively to that setback, drawing level seven minutes from time when Henrique’s header from Giorgian de Arrascaeta’s corner made its way over the line via touches off the crossbar and upright.
Both sides pushed to secure all three points, but had to share the spoils despite Pedro and Léo Pereira (Atlético) both hitting the woodwork in the closing stages at the Estádio Antônio Accioly.
