Bordeaux head coach Bruno Irles has challenged the one-year suspension given to his assistant Wilfrid Rastoll, rejecting the allegations behind it.

The incident occurred during the 8th round of the Coupe de France against ASMUR in Pau on 30 November. According to L'Équipe, the referee’s report cited insulting and homophobic remarks towards the match official. Rastoll was sent off and later received a one-year ban, nine months of which are to be served.

On Sunday, after the Girondins were knocked out at Le Puy 0-1, Irles disputed the version that led to the sanction.

He said he was alongside his assistant at the time, that he heard what was said and would not submit a false sworn statement. He also suggested the referee might not have heard everything.

Irles added that Bordeaux will appeal the decision and said the club is backing him in doing so.
