Bruno Spindel praises CBF for plan to reduce foreigners in Brasileirão | OneFootball

Bruno Spindel, now at Cruzeiro and formerly of Flamengo, has welcomed the CBF’s move to cut the number of foreign players allowed in the Brasileirão. According to Coluna Do Fla, he framed it as part of modernising Brazilian football and encouraging youth development.

He cautioned that studies must be handled carefully and said that, if complementary measures accompany the rule change, it could lead to more minutes for young Brazilian players.

Cruzeiro currently have eight foreigners in the squad, Matías Viña, Gabriel Rojas, Lucas Villalba, Lucas Romero, Lucho Rodríguez, Sinisterra, Neiser Villarreal and Keny Arroyo.

Clubs can list nine foreign players per Brasileirão match at present. In a CBF meeting on Monday 21, a phased reduction was agreed, eight in 2027, seven in 2028, six in 2029 and five from 2030.

Only Flamengo and Bahia voted against. Flamengo have 10 foreigners, Rossi, Joaquín Freitas, Gonzalo Plata, Anthony Valencia, Erick Pulgar, Arrascaeta, Varela, De La Cruz, Carrascal and Saúl.

Flamengo also sought debate on removing the limit on internal transfers after 12 league appearances, but the matter was not taken forward.
