The 24-year-old is into the final 18 months of his existing deal, though there was always confidence from the club's side that an extension would be agreed.

The Athletic report that the final touches are now being put on that, with Saka ready to pen to paper on a contract that will commit his future to Arsenal through to the summer of 2031.

Saka has been rewarded with fresh terms that are viewed as recognition of his status as one of the Premier League's top stars.

The winger made his debut in 2018 for the club he joined as a seven-year-old and has played a leading role in the club's transformation into serious title contenders.

Alongside a busy summer of transfer business, Andrea Berta has been working hard on securing the futures of a number of key first-team players at Arsenal.

Gabriel, William Saliba, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have all signed new deals in recent months, but it is Saka's contract extension that is perhaps the biggest statement of them all.

He has a crucial part to play in Arsenal's push for the Premier League and Champions League this season, and is also likely to be an important factor in England's World Cup campaign in the summer.

Saka has been almost an ever-present in the Arsenal side for near enough the entirety of Mikel Arteta's time in charge.

However, there has been more caution with his workload this season, particularly after the hamstring issues he has suffered.

The arrival of Noni Madueke has enabled Arteta to manage Saka's minutes more and he has started on the bench against the likes of Club Brugge, Brentford and Bournemouth in the last month or so.

It is hoped that will help keep Saka fit and available heading into the business end of the season.
