Gunners wonderkid continues to impress for first team

Bukayo Saka has declared his Arsenal team-mate Max Dowman an “insane” talent as he challenged the 16-year-old to deliver on his massive potential.

Dowman continues to produce performances beyond his years for the Gunners when given the opportunity, and only turns 17 on New Year’s Eve.

The England Under-19 international scored twice for Arsenal in their recent 4-2 win over Ipswich Town in the Carabao Cup, with the first of those goals involving a jinking run and powerful finish.

The 16-year-old became the Premier League’s youngest-ever scorer last season when he netted on the break against Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

Among the other list of records that belong to Dowman is youngest Champions League player ever, aged 15, Arsenal's youngest-ever starter, and the youngest-ever Premier League title winner.

On Wednesday, Dowman’s Arsenal team-mate Saka was asked about the progress of the teenager, as he spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live ahead of England’s four Nations League matches against Spain, Czechia and Croatia over the next three weeks.

“His talent is insane,” Saka said of the Arsenal academy product.

Saka was then asked whether he believes England are getting closer to a first trophy since 1966.

The right-winger replied: “Yes. I think how far we're going in the tournaments [explains why].

“Obviously, we know we have the quality, but I'm saying how far we go in the tournaments, how close we come. It's just that it says it in itself.”
