German football is mourning Peter Hermann, the revered Bundesliga coaching figure who died aged 74 on Saturday from complications related to ALS, a neurological disease.

Niko Kovac, who worked with him at Bayern Munich, said he was deeply saddened by the loss of his former colleague. “He was a wonderful person. He has left us, and may God have mercy on his soul,” he told Sky Germany.

Across a distinguished career, Hermann served as an assistant at Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke, and he also took interim charge at Leverkusen.

He was part of Bayern’s coaching staff for the club’s 2013 treble, working as Jupp Heynckes’ assistant.

Clubs he served, including Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, paid tribute to a widely respected coaching presence whose influence spanned decades in the German game.
