The 2025/26 season has finally marked Johan Manzambi’s breakthrough. The 20-year-old Swiss has become a regular at SC Freiburg – and is thus arousing desires at the highest level. FC Bayern are also said to be keeping a close eye on the Bundesliga youngster

Johan Manzambi is one of the big winners in the German top flight this season. The SC Freiburg central midfielder has made 26 competitive appearances so far, contributing nine goals in the process. Four goals and five assists from the center underline his development and make him one of the most eye-catching youngsters in the Bundesliga

These performances have apparently also been registered at Säbener Straße. As transfer insider Ekrem Konur reports, FC Bayern are among the clubs who have Manzambi on their radar. The German record champions are said to be keeping a close eye on the Swiss and are keeping abreast of his development

Premier League apparently one step ahead

Despite Bayern’s rumoured interest, Munich are not the favourites for a transfer, according to Konur. Instead, the 20-year-old’s path seems to lead towards the Premier League, with a move to England „as good as certain“

Specifically, Manchester United, Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC are said to be among the clubs closely scouting Manzambi. According to the report, top scouts from the English clubs are in the stands at several matches to observe the Freiburg top performer at close quarters

Manzambi is said to have many internal advocates, particularly at Manchester United, and although a winter transfer is not an issue, a move next summer is being seriously considered

Freiburg has the upper hand

In Breisgau, meanwhile, the growing speculation is being met with calm. SC Freiburg only extended Manzambi’s contract early in June 2025 until the summer of 2030. This puts those responsible around sporting director Jochen Saier in an excellent negotiating position

According to Konur, a transfer fee of between 50 and 55 million euros could be on the table – an amount that would exceed all previous sales by SC Freiburg

It remains to be seen whether FC Bayern will actually make a serious move in this price segment, but one thing is clear: Johan Manzambi has played his way into the focus of Europe’s elite with his performances – and the next step in his career seems only a matter of time.
