With the final matchday of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season in the books, Bulinews.com Editor-in-Chief Rune Gjerulff has picked his Team of the Season.
Unsurprisingly, champions Bayern Munich dominate the selection, with Dayot Upamecano, Joshua Kimmich, Michael Olise and Harry Kane all in the team.
Two players each from Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen made the cut, while Augsburg, Stuttgart and Mainz each have one representative.
Finn Dahmen, Augsburg
After missing much of Augsburg’s preseason due to injury, Dahmen began the 2024/25 campaign on the bench as Nediljko Labrovic took the starting role. But following the winter break, head coach Jess Thorup opted for a change between the sticks - a decision he likely hasn’t regretted. The 27-year-old played a key role in solidifying Augsburg’s defense, finishing the season with nine clean sheets in 19 appearances, including an impressive run of six consecutive shutouts.
Rasmus Kristensen, Eintracht Frankfurt
The hard-working Dane quickly became a fan favorite at Deutsche Bank Park following his loan move from Leeds United - a deal that has since been made permanent. Kristensen established himself as a certain starter on the right side of defense, combining solidity at the back with physicality and attacking drive. He finished the season in excellent form, scoring in each of Frankfurt’s final three matches, including the winner against Freiburg on the last matchday. All in all, it's safe to say his impact was crucial in securing Champions League qualification.
Dayot Upamecano, FC Bayern
Following a challenging 2023/24 season under Thomas Tuchel, Upamecano looked back to his best under Vincent Kompany’s guidance until a season-ending injury sidelined him in late March. Prior to that setback, the French defender was in commanding form, using his physicality and pace to frustrate opposing strikers. He also impressed in possession, finishing the season with a remarkable 94% passing accuracy.
Jonathan Tah, Bayer Leverkusen
Tah came close to leaving Bayer Leverkusen last summer, but ultimately had to stay put after his proposed move to Bayern Munich collapsed. While that setback could have disrupted his focus, the experienced defender responded with professionalism and delivered a standout final season for Die Werkself. As the anchor of Leverkusen’s defense, he provided consistent reliability, completing an impressive 93 percent of his passes and averaging five ball recoveries per game.
Maximilian Mittelstädt, Stuttgart
The former Hertha left-back proved that his standout 2023/24 campaign was no fluke. A constant source of energy down the left flank, Mittelstädt finished the season with one goal and seven assists.
Joshua Kimmich, FC Bayern
After a challenging campaign under Thomas Tuchel, Joshua Kimmich re-established himself at the heart of Bayern’s midfield following the arrival of Vincent Kompany. The 30-year-old delivered a remarkably consistent season, contributing three goals and six assists, while maintaining an impressive 93 percent pass completion rate.
Nadiem Amiri, Mainz
Nadiem Amiri has been one of the driving forces behind Mainz’s sensational season and immediately became a key figure at the club after his move from Bayer Leverkusen in January 2023.The 28-year-old ended the season with seven goals and five assists, and his standout performances earned him a well-deserved return to the German national team.
Michael Olise, FC Bayern
Arguably the Bundesliga’s player of the season season, Michael Olise made an instant impact following his arrival from Crystal Palace. Combining dazzling dribbling skills with clinical finishing and sharp vision, the Frenchman lit up the league. He featured in all 34 of Bayern’s Bundesliga matches, contributing to an outstanding 27 goals (12 goals, 15 assists).
Florian Wirtz, Bayer Leverkusen
Wirtz delivered another outstanding campaign for Leverkusen, serving as the creative heartbeat of their attack. The 21-year-old finished the season with 10 goals and 12 assists.
Harry Kane, FC Bayern
A consistent source of goals, Harry Kane delivered another outstanding campaign for Bayern Munich, finally lifting his first major trophy with the club. The England captain scored 26 Bundesliga goals and provided 10 assists, tallying 36 goal involvements in just 31 appearances
Omar Marmoush, Eintracht Frankfurt
Omar Marmoush’s mid-season move to Manchester City might raise questions about his inclusion, but the impact he had at Eintracht Frankfurt is nothing short of phenomenal. In just half a season, the Egyptian forward racked up an incredible 15 goals and 10 assists. His early-season brilliance laid the foundation for Frankfurt’s third-place finish, but credit must go to Dino Toppmöller’s side for for maintaining their form after his departure.
On the bench: Robin Zentner (Mainz), Piero Hincapié (Bayer Leverkusen), Nico Schlotterbeck (Borussia Dortmund), Angelo Stiller (Stuttgart), Nadiem Amiri (Mainz), Hugo Ekitiké (Eintracht Frankfurt), Serhou Guirassy (Borussia Dortmund).
