There were three Bundesliga players in action out of a possible six today as day two of the World Cup got underway. England recorded an emphatic 6-2 win against Iran and the Netherlands beat Senegal 2-0. In the final game of the day, USA drew 1-1 with Wales.
England 6-2 Iran
Jude Bellingham – The Borussia Dortmund midfielder played the full 90 minutes as England beat Iran 6-2. Bellingham was one of England’s stand out players as he opened the scoring in the 35th minute, which was his first ever international goal for the national team. The performance from Bellingham was similar to what he has done with Dortmund this season and with there being increased interest in the 19-year-old, his value will continue to rise with performances like that.
Sardar Azmoun – The striker made a brief 13 minute cameo for Iran but was unable to fully get into the game as it was already over by the time he had entered the pitch. Azmoun has not played as much as he would of liked for Bayer Leverkusen this season, only starting two of his eight appearances in the league for die Werkself due to injury.
Matthijs de Ligt – Played the full 90 minutes for the Netherlands and kept a clean sheet in the win against Senegal. This was de Ligt’s first full 90 minutes since Bayern Munich beat Barcelona 3-0 in October as the defender had been dealing with a twisted knee so had only been making bit part appearances before the Bundesliga break.
Jeremie Frimpong – Did not make an appearance off the bench for the Netherlands as Denzel Dumfries played the full 90 minutes.
