Burnley battle for a draw at home to Aston Villa | OneFootball

Burnley battled to a point against Europa League finalists Aston Villa in what was one of the Clarets' better performances this season.

The Lancashire side may already be relegated but they took the lead against Villa with just eight minutes gone in the game. Lesley Ugochukwu fired an effort from the edge of the area that Emiliano Martínez could only parry away with Jaidon Anthony on hand to score on the rebound.

Villa looked hungover from their midweek exploits but levelled the score just before the break when John McGinn's corner from the right was nodded in by Ross Barkley.

Despite any fatigue from their semi-final victory, Villa took the lead with just over 10 minutes gone in the second half. A long ball over the top sent Ollie Watkins away and the England striker continued his fine form as he poked the ball past Max Weiss to make it 2-1 to the visitors.

Burnley were back level soon after though. Matty Cash felt like he had been fouled but Burnley continued with Hannibal Mejbri then back heeling the ball into the path of Zian Flemming to make it 2-2.

That result of course does nothing for Burnley who know their fate next season. However, Unai Emery's side failed to take advantage of both Liverpool and Manchester United ahead of the both dropping points.
