As previously reported by Mohamed Toubache-Ter, Burnley are interested in SM Caen’s Andréas Hountondji (21), however, L’Équipe now understands that the EFL Championship side may have to contend with some considerable competition for his signature.
Following relegation from the Premier League, Burnley, who recently appointed Scott Parker as their successor to Vincent Kompany, are preparing for life back in the Championship. The aim will be to return to the top flight and so they are also looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the start of the new season.
Benin international Hountondji, valued at €4m by Caen, had a stellar campaign in Ligue 2 last season. On loan at promotion-chasing Rodez, he netted 16 goals and registered seven assists in 39 appearances in all competitions. That form caught the attention of Burnley, but also of AS Saint-Étienne, promoted back to Ligue 1, and Stade Brestois, who will compete in the UEFA Champions League next season.
All three aforementioned clubs are in talks over a deal for the forward, who has just one year remaining on his deal at Caen. L’Équipe understands that Saint-Étienne are most advanced in discussions to sign Hountondji.
