Wout Weghorst's future has been uncertain for some time, but the player is now confident of securing a move back to his home country.

Burnley striker Wout Weghorst is confident about sealing a move to Eredivisie giants Ajax this summer.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, who took to X to reveal this news, the player is pushing for this move back to the Netherlands, as he looks to secure an exit from Turf Moor before the end of the window.

Weghorst has spent much of his spell in Lancashire out on loan, struggling to make an impact when he first came in before going out on loan to Besiktas, Manchester United and most recently, Hoffenheim, thriving the most out in Turkey.

However, he isn't guaranteed to leave again this summer, with the Clarets retaining him up until this point and the English club already making plenty of money from player sales.

With key players departing for big sums, that could give Scott Parker's side the license to retain the Netherlands international beyond the end of the window, but they have more than enough strikers at their disposal at this point.

Despite being heavily linked with a move away from Turf Moor, he has still been involved under Parker this season, coming on as a substitute against Luton Town and Cardiff City.

He was unable to get himself on the scoresheet in any of those games, but his contributions haven't been needed, with the Lancashire side registering big wins in both games anyway.

But the fact he has been involved suggests that Parker sees him as a part of his plans, though it remains to be seen whether he will still be with his current side after the window closes on August 30th.

Wout Weghorst confident of Ajax switch

The Clarets' forward Weghorst could secure an exit before the deadline, with Tavolieri believing that a deal could potentially be in the pipeline.

The player is believed to be "very confident" that Ajax and the English side can strike an agreement for the striker to make the switch back to the Netherlands - and it's a move that Weghorst is reportedly pushing for.

It's unclear why the 32-year-old is confident, although he is one of several striker options at Turf Moor right now and could probably afford to be let go without a replacement arriving in Lancashire.

Burnley must put an end to the Wout Weghorst saga

The Clarets may be in a fairly strong negotiating position considering the other sales they have and are in the process of making.

However, the player's deal expires next summer and the thought of losing him for free would be painful for the club, even though they haven't seen the best of him at Turf Moor.

As mentioned above, there are plenty of other forward options that Parker could rely on if Weghorst leaves.

Lyle Foster could be a major asset this season, Jay Rodriguez has signed on for another season, Zeki Amdouni can play up top if he stays, Michael Obafemi is another potential option and so is summer signing Andreas Hountondji.

With these options in mind and the fact the player wants to seal an exit, letting Weghorst go would probably be the best option for Parker and his team.
