Luca Koleosho could emerge as the latest high-profile Burnley player exit amid an ongoing Turf Moor firesale

Wolves' reported interest in Luca Koleosho could result in yet another high-profile Turf Moor departure across the summer transfer window, which threatens to pose serious questions in the way of Burnley chairman Alan Pace.

Burnley have encountered the natural trials and tribulations of struggling to retain prized assets following relegation from the Premier League, with a mass exodus taking place amid the Clarets' attempts to bolster a squad capable of returning to top-flight football at the first time of asking.

Wilson Odobert, Sander Berge, Dara O'Shea have all departed for the Premier League, and James Trafford remains of interest to Newcastle United.

Wing duo Anass Zaroury and Johann Berg Gudmundsson have both moved on too, while Manuel Benson appears poised to depart Lancashire in the coming days amid interest from Sunderland, Leeds United and Norwich City.

Ameen Al-Dakhil is set to leave for Stuttgart too, with a reported agreement in excess of nine million euros being struck.

Perhaps with the exceptions of Benson and Gudmundsson, the majority of Burnley's exits were among the club's very finest players, and the same can be said for Koleosho, who made a significant impression in the Premier League last year before being struck down by a season-ending injury in December.

Luca Koleosho's potential Wolves transfer would be a massive blow for Burnley & Scott Parker

According to a recent reveal from the Express & Star, Wolves have begun negotiations with Burnley regarding a potential swoop for Koleosho.

Burnley are believed to have forked out a mere £2.6m to secure his signature from Espanyol last summer and will likely be eyeing a significant profit if they are to sanction a departure, after the American made a big impact in the Premier League last season.

Wolves, however, have recently sold Pedro Neto to Chelsea for £54m and have plenty of financial leeway to broker a deal, which will surely be a cause for concern at Burnley.

Indeed, there are undeniable parallels between Neto - at least when he initially broke through at Wolves - and Koleosho.

Direct, dynamic and full of skill with the ability to beat opponents on the inside and outside, Koleosho is a precocious talent who showed all the signs of threatening to light up the Championship this season in his side's 5-0 rout of Cardiff City last weekend.

Alongside Odobert, the USA-born Italy youth international was a bright spark in what otherwise proved to be a dismal campaign at the club last season, running opposing defenders ragged with his trickery and directness up and down the left-hand side.

You do get the impression Koleosho could really storm the division this season - that is, if he stays put.

The reality is that Koleosho, just like players such as Odobert and Berge, is simply too good for the Championship and would be a real asset at an even higher level, but that does not mean Burnley should just roll over and let him leave either.

Luca Koleosho's potential Burnley exit should accelerate Alan Pace concerns

Burnley have gone from simply boasting far too many wingers to being short-staffed in the wide areas in just a matter of a few weeks, which is telling of how much their strength in depth has been decimated.

They have sanctioned sale after sale, cashing in on many of their very best players without sourcing ample replacements, and criticism is growing on social media of chairman Pace due to the exodus of many top players - more than many were hoping or expecting to lose.

Admittedly, Joe Worrall and Bashir Humphreys could each fill the void left by O'Shea following his move to Ipswich, but Odobert, Berge and Zaroury have not been properly replaced with just a few days to go until the transfer deadline - although Jeremy Sarmiento and Jaidon Anthony look set to arrive providing their are no medical hitches.

It should still be a serious concern though for Scott Parker, who will have no doubt been given certain promises pertaining to the backing he would receive and the club's ability to exercise stern player retention in order to bolster their promotion bid.

Generally speaking, Burnley have made a strong start to life back in the Championship, but after Saturday afternoon's 1-0 defeat to 10-men Sunderland alongside the unrelenting opening of the exit door as of late, the good mood around the club does appear to be shifting and the hierarchy will have to take a degree of responsibility.

Questions from supporters will likely be forthcoming and such concerns will not arrive without reason either.

Sales are inevitable in the wake of relegation; wage bills invariably require rebalancing, player power is more imposing than ever before and each club always appears to have a selection of individuals who still manage to leave the Premier League with their heads held high.

The issue, then, is arguably more towards Pace and co waiting so late to agree exits for Burnley's best players instead of getting it done earlier on to give Parker a good amount of time to prepare his squad and scour for replacements.

He is already operating on limited time to do that and concerns will only be amplified if Koleosho leaves the club, which definitely feels like a big possibility.

Burnley cannot allow Koleosho to leave unless they have a replacement lined up and receive a simply breathtaking figure from Wolves. If they fail to do that, though, further questions really need to be asked of Pace.
