Burnley are set to seal a significant triple transfer swoop

Burnley are poised to complete a significant triple transfer swoop, with Hannibal Mejibri, Jeremy Sarmiento and Jaidon Anthony all set to sign for the club imminently.

The bombshell reveal comes via a report from reporter Sacha Tavolieri from his X account, where he has claimed the three players are in the North West of England to undertake medical tests ahead of moves to the Clarets.

Burnley have conducted a fire-sale of some of their prized assets as of late. Wilson Odobert, Dara O'Shea and Sander Berge have all returned to the Premier League following Burnley's relegation by joining Tottenham Hotspur, Ipswich Town and Fulham respectively.

There is potentially more to come too, with Luca Koleosho wanted by Wolves amid Newcastle United's interest in James Trafford, while both Manuel Benson and Wout Weghorst want to leave the Clarets.

Ameen Al-Dakhil is also closing in on a switch to Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart following a reported agreement in excess of nine million euros between the two clubs, whereas both Anass Zaroury and Johan Berg Gudmundsson have already departed.

That means the impending triple capture of three midfield and winger talents in Hannibal, Sarmiento and Anthony represents an overwhelming boost to their promotion ambitions ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.

As first called by Tavolieri, the trio have all headed to Lancashire to complete moves to the club, although the initial report did not disclose the terms of each acquisition.

Fabrizio Romano has since reported that a "verbal agreement" has been reached with Manchester United for the arrival of Mejbri, who has spent the last two seasons on loan away from Old Trafford with Birmingham City and Sevilla.

Romano claims the agreement pertains to a loan deal with a mandatory purchase option, of which the financial value remains unclear at the time of writing.

Mejbri racked up 13 senior appearances for the Red Devils after graduating from the club's academy, and he is also an established international after earning more than 20 caps to date at senior level for the Tunisia national team.

Meanwhile, Burnley had previously been credited with an interest in taking Sarmiento on loan by Alan Nixon of The Sun - via Patreon.

Nixon's reveal claimed Burnley and Sheffield United were both eager to sign the Ecuador international on loan, although it did suggest potential attempts to complete the signing on a permanent basis.

Sarmiento, who is currently contracted to Brighton and Hove Albion, spent the 2023/24 Championship campaign on loan with both West Bromwich Albion and Ipswich Town, winning promotion to the Premier League with the latter.

According to a subsequent report from talkSPORT's Alex Crook, Anthony is set to join Burnley on loan with a £10 million obligation to buy if they achieve promotion.

The winger endured a somewhat disappointing loan spell in the second-tier last season with Leeds United after failing to displace Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and Dan James, but Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola had previously hinted his desire to keep Anthony at the Cherries this season.

However, it appears as though the influence of Parker - who Anthony had played under at Bournemouth - has been crucial in brokering the deal.

The caution with Burnley's ongoing fire-sale involves concerns over whether Burnley are intending on replacing their outgoings, but this afternoon's turn of events appears to clarify their stance.

Despite also receiving limited minutes on loan with Sevilla in La Liga last term, Mejbri should prove to be a strong replacement for Berge.

The 21-year-old earned plentiful plaudits at Birmingham two seasons ago for his tenacity and ability to break up play in the middle of the park, which is something Burnley have needed to address this summer.

Sarmiento will need to establish more consistency than he showed with West Brom and Ipswich, but he is undoubtedly an extreme talent who can turn games on a head and produce moments of real brilliance.

Most at home on the left-hand side, he has the quality to soften the blow if Koleosho departs for Wolves in the coming days. If Brighton have decided to sanction a loan exit for Sarmiento, they will naturally demand consistent match minutes for the prospect.

It will be interesting to see how Parker balances his wide options, with Anthony also a left-sided winger by trade.

He understandably faced difficulty in making that position his own at Elland Road, so he too will now be expecting to play regularly for Burnley.

Anthony is perhaps the most proven signing at Championship level of the three, having orchestrated an influential role in Bournemouth's promotion to the Premier League in the 2021/22 season.

£10 million does feel a steep price for Anthony, however, Burnley's obligation could be vindicated if he fires them to promotion this season.

Nonetheless, it should provide a healthier selection headache in comparison to not having enough options to call upon, which was the reality when Burnley lost 1-0 at Sunderland over the weekend.

Promotion-winning sides are often underlined by their strength in depth, and the Clarets' triple capture of three young, high-potential players with proven credentials in the Championship should go some way to lifting the concerned mood around the club as of late.
