Newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley FC are showing interest in Strasbourg centre-back Ismaël Doukouré (19), according to a report from Foot Mercato. The 19-year-old defender is said to have caught the eye of Clarets coach Vincent Kompany – a valuable endorsement for Doukouré from a legendary centre-back.
So much so that the Belgian is entertaining the prospect of coaching him. Doukouré, an U20 French international, joined Strasbourg from Ligue 2 side Valenciennes 18 months ago. The prospect played 29 games in all competitions with the Alsatians this past season.
It remains to be seen whether Strasbourg, which is now owned by American consortium BlueCo, will sanction the sale of one of their prized assets. Doukouré is still tied to Strasbourg over a long-term contract which is set to expire in 2026. The idea of playing against some of the Premier League’s very best may appeal to Doukouré. The right-footed centre-back is valued at €6m by Transfermarkt.
