Swansea City are eager to add a left-footed winger to their ranks before the transfer window slams shut
Burnley's Manuel Benson is on the radar of Swansea City, as the Championship side looks to add to their wide ranks before the end of the transfer window.
BBC Wales' Gareth Vincent reported that Benson has been a name mentioned by Swansea, on a list which includes Hull City's now-Getafe-bound wide-man Abu Kakara and Sunderland's Patrick Roberts, albeit with the latter set to sign for Birmingham City - as first revealed exclusively by Football League World earlier today.
The only natural right-winger in Alan Sheehan's squad currently is Ronald, and whilst the Brazilian has started the season in fine form, already equaling his goal tally from the previous campaign, healthy competition will still be needed for a long Championship season.
Therefore, a shortlist has been created, and Benson, who managed just three league appearances for the Clarets last season, is one of the names on it.
Gareth Vincent, on X, reported that Swansea are chasing a left-footed winger, and Benson is one of the names that has been mentioned.
The Angolan international has had a rough couple of seasons at Turf Moor, after netting 11 en route to their Championship-winning campaign under Vincent Kompany during the 2022/23 term, his first season in England.
Benson has made just 11 league appearances across the last two seasons - eight in the Premier League, and then just three in 2024/25 back in the Championship.
A calf injury picked up in last August's draw with Blackburn Rovers saw the 28-year-old miss the majority of last season, next appearing in a matchday squad the following February.
Even then, it proved difficult for Benson to get minutes, and he appeared just twice more in Championship action that season. So far in 2025/26, he's yet to make a Premier League squad and has had his minutes restricted solely to U21s action.
A fresh start is needed for the wideman, and Swansea may be able to offer that, if a deal can be made before the 7pm deadline.
The Swans are in the market for a left-footed winger, and Benson had a knack for cutting inside from the right and scoring some wonder goals during his first season in the Championship back in 2022/23.
In that campaign, he scored 11 and assisted three en route to a Championship title, but he only started just 14 times. If given the opportunity to play more regularly, and more importantly, he stays fit, Swansea could have a real dangerman on their hands out wide.
Adding Benson would provide suitable competition for Ronald on the wing, who himself has enjoyed a great start to the season, scoring in wins against both Sheffield clubs in the league, and one in their EFL Cup first round win against Crawley Town.
If Benson can contribute with the goals he became accustomed to scoring during his early time at Turf Moor, and if Ronald can continue his fine form throughout August, then Alan Sheehan's side could be one to have an eye on when it comes to quality wide options this season.
