Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes have suggested that Leny Yoro is not ready to be a first-team regular at Manchester United.

United beat competition from Real Madrid to sign Yoro from Lille for an initial fee of around £52m in 2024.

Yoro arrived as one of the most sought-after centre-backs in European football, but has had a mixed time at Old Trafford.

He’s made 29 league starts in almost two seasons with the Red Devils, and former Manchester United midfielders Butt and Scholes have questioned whether he’s ready to be an automatic starter.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast, neither stated a belief that Yoro should be a starter now, when asked to do a ‘sell or keep’ with the current Manchester United squad.

“He’s just a young centre-back, isn’t he? I’d be putting him out on loan,” Butt began.

“I’d keep him, but I’d put him out on loan.”

Scholes agreed that Yoro is not ready for first-team football and said he would sell the Frenchman if he ‘had to make a choice now.”

“I think there’s something in there. He needs a bit of time. But If I had to make a choice now, I’d probably sell him.”
