Inter Milan star Federico Dimarco delivered a ‘Man of the Match’ performance in tonight’s 2-0 win at Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the Italian wingback refused to hide his excitement for being handed the captain’s armband.

Federico Dimarco opened the scoring at Signal Iduna Park with a sublime free-kick in the 81st minute.

Then, second-half substitute Andy Diouf sealed Dortmund’s fate with his first UEFA Champions League goal in Inter colors.

Despite securing their first high-profile win under Cristian Chivu, the San Siro giants have missed out on a top-eight finish.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri finished 10th in the 36-team table, a point adrift of eighth-placed Manchester City.

Therefore, they will continue their European journey in the knockout playoff round.

However, this victory should inspire confidence, with Inter finally breaking their ‘big game’ curse.

With Lautaro Martinez starting on the bench, Chivu handed Dimarco the captain’s armband tonight.

“Wearing the armband from the start for the first time is a special emotion,” Dimarco said after the game.

“We played a great game and created a lot in the first half without managing to score.

“Then we got those two goals that made us believe a bit more… from the bench, they were telling us how the other matches were going.

“We’ll fight it out in the playoffs.”

Finally, Dimarco addressed his remarkable return to form this season.

Tonight, he scored his first Champions League goal of the campaign.

However, he boasts four goals and nine assists in Serie A, coupled with two more in the Champions League.

“The calmness I was missing,” Dimarco added. “Confidence is the key thing: the more you have, the better it is.

“And then performances – the better you play, the happier you are, and you keep pushing in that direction.”
