Borussia had already beaten Real Madrid 4-1 and Celtic 2-1 in the preliminary round. In the semi-final, Juventus awaited in front of 11,000 spectators at SAP Garden – the Black & Yellows emerged victorious from this match too, thanks to a 5-2 win. After falling behind 2-0, BVB turned the game around with goals from Sokratis (2) and legendary debutant Mats Hummels, securing the title. Mladen Petric, who scored five goals, was also named the best player of the tournament. “It was incredible fun! Winning was great, of course, but playing in this atmosphere with all the lads also brought back fond memories of the last 18 years in Dortmund. It was a great debut, a big day – it feels really good,” said Hummels after his first appearance for the BVB legends following the trophy presentation.
