BVB Season Opener: Early Dominance, Serhou’s Streak, and Stability

In eleven of the last twelve Bundesliga seasons, BVB started with a win. The club suffered its last opening-day loss in 2014 under Jürgen Klopp, who had previously secured five matchday 1 wins as part of his seven years at Strobelallee.

Just like last year, the first player to score BVB’s first goal of the season was Serhou Guirassy. In 2025, he made it 1-0 goal against FC St. Pauli at Millerntor-Stadion (final score: 3-3). During the remainder of the 2025-26 Bundesliga season, no other player put their team up 1-0 as many times as Serhou Guirassy, who continued in his own footsteps against HSV. In the ninth minute of play, Borussia's target striker found the net from 16.9 meters (roughly 55.4 feet) out. The effort was clocked at 101.4 km/h (63 mph).

Last season, only one Bundesliga team scored more goals in the opening quarter-hour of matches than BVB's total of nine. Borussia supporters will be thrilled to see their side get off to another fast start while earning yet another clean sheet — thanks in part to three saves by goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. (br)
