BVB coach Högner made eight changes to the starting eleven from the cup win in Thülen (4-0). Only Rita Schumacher, Paula Reimann and Ann-Sophie Vogel kept their place in the starting lineup.
From the opening whistle, the Black & Yellows took control and worked off their frustration from the previous week. Ronja Leubner was the star of the show early on and scored twice on 8 and 14 minutes, before narrowly missing her hat-trick in the 17th minute. She gave her side a 1-0 lead after a fine pass from Jasmin Jabbes, and she doubled the lead by being on the spot after a precise corner from Schumacher.
Even after the lightning fast start, the Dortmund women kept up the pressure on their opponents. Dana Marquardt increased the lead to 3-0 in the 24th minute after a precise cross from Ann-Sophie Vogel. Shortly before the break, BVB were rewarded for their latest phase of pressing, a corner of Schumacher was initially well defended, before captain Paula Reimann applied an ice cold finish at the far post in the 42nd minute. To that point, there had been hardly anything in response from the guests – the 4-0 scoreline going into the break was even flattering for Gladbach.
After changing ends, nothing changed in the game: Schumacher extended the lead from the edge of the penalty area, making it 5-0 on the hour mark, and only two minutes later, she scored her second goal in the 62nd minute. Dana Marquardt got the final goal of the game, stepping up after drawing a foul to confidently convert the penalty from the spot on 82 minutes for the final score of 7-0. Shortly afterwards, Schumacher almost celebrated her hat-trick, but was denied by the crossbar in the 85th minute, meaning that it remained 7-0 to Dortmund at the final whistle.
With this comfortable home win, the BVB women climbed to third place in the table and are now three points behind leaders Cologne. Next Sunday (14 September, 16:00 CET), the BVB ladies face an away match against 1. FFC Recklinghausen.
