After the BVB women put in an impressive performance in the first Regionalliga game with a 6-0 win over the U23s of Bayer Leverkusen, the first away game of the Black & Yellows was a narrow defeat. Against the U21s of 1. FC Köln, the BVB ladies suffered a 4-3 defeat despite leading a 3-1 at one stage. “We were overconfident. That’s a mistake that you can’t afford to make,” coach Markus Högner said in conclusion regarding the defeat. “Now we are wide awake – we've had a warning at the right time.” Thus, after two games played, the BVB women are going into the next Matchday in fifth place in the table.

Before the focus shifts back to the league however, the Borussia women face a first round match in the Verbandspokal on Thursday 4 September. The BVB women will take on Westfalenliga club SV Thülen from 18:15 CET at Sportplatz am Scheid in Brilon for a place in the second round. The Black & Yellows will travel to SV Thülen as the defending champions: in June 2025, with a 2-0 victory in the derby final against Schalke 04, BVB secured not only the Westfalenpokal, but also a place in the DFB-Pokal. The first-round opponents this season already know the Borussia women from the two clashes in the last season in the Westfalenliga. “We’re taking the game very seriously. SV Thülen are unpleasant opponents. There will also be a lot of opposing fans cheering them on,” said Högner.

Back to the Regionalliga – to the second match of BVB women this week: on Sunday, 7 September, BVB will play not only the second home game, but also the third match against a second team in the Regionalliga already. Borussia Mönchengladbach II, who finished second last season, will be the guests at the Rote Erde. “Like against Cologne and Leverkusen, a young team awaits us. The second teams are always a bag of tricks with a lot of quality – the girls have had a very good education," said Högner, stressing once again: “We've had our warning now.”

The Gladbach women have started the season with one defeat (2-1) and one draw (1-1). At the start of the season, BVB won against Gladbach's first team, who play in the second tier, in the play-off round of the DFB-Pokal, securing a tie in the first round proper against FC Bayern . They will also be looking for victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach’s second team on Sunday.

BVB coach Markus Högner will have to do without Melanie Schuster (torn cruciate ligament), Frederike Kempe and Celina Baum this week, but Kempe and Baum are already back in training.

As usual, the BVB women are looking forward to plenty of support on Sunday against Borussia Mönchengladbach II in the Rote Erde. Tickets for the Regionalliga match are available in the online ticket shop. If you cannot be there inside the stadium, you can watch the game exclusively and free of charge on Pluto TV.
