BVB women with fresh confidence against Moers and Bielefeld

With fresh confidence following the Pokal game against FC Bayern Munich, where the team put up an impressive fight against the double-champions despite the 2-0 defeat, the BVB women are now ready to attack the league again. Playing three games in seven days is also a first for coach Markus Högner. For this task, he has a “large and fit squad” at his disposal, the head coach said. Apart from Melanie Schuster and Mia Scholle, who both have long-term injuries, the only other player with a question mark over her head is Jenske Steenwijk. The defender was kicked in the hand during a sliding tackle in the Pokal game. Investigations are ongoing, but so far no fractures have been detected.

Like the BVB women, GSV Moers were also promoted to the Regionalliga this summer. In the Niederrheinliga the team only conceded 17 goals in 24 games - the best result in the league. This season, the newly promoted team is currently last in the table following one draw and 17 goals conceded in five games. They were only able to win a point against the second team of Borussia Mönchengladbach in extra time. Markus Högner is expecting the opposing team to be focused on defence, meaning space will have to be created primarily through intense movement off the ball to create opportunities to score.

After the home game, the BVB women only have one day of training before their away game against Bielefeld on Sunday (5.10) kicks off at 13:00 CEST in the Edimedien-Arena. The DSC Arminia Bielefeld women have been playing the Regionalliga West since their relegation from the second Bundesliga in the 2020/21 season. Since then they have always finished in the top half of the table - at the end of the previous season, they were third. “Bielefeld are always a team who are pushing at the door of the second league,” said Markus Högner. This season, the team are once again among the top contenders: four wins in six games mean that they are currently fourth in the table.

The national holiday will be a match day: on German Unity Day, the BVB women can once again look forward to strong support in the Stadion Rote Erde in their game against Moers. Tickets for the Regionalliga game (3.10, 15:00 CEST) are available in the online ticket shop. Those who are unable to watch the game live in the stadium can watch the BVB women’s games exclusively and for free on Pluto TV.
