The CAF Champions League kicks off again this weekend with the first leg of the preliminary round.
Two clubs will be exempt from this preliminary stage: last season's runners-up Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) and record title holders Al Ahly (Egypt).
However, the reigning champions Pyramids (Egypt) and Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia) will face APR FC (Rwanda) and Forces Armées (Niger) respectively.
According to many pundits, the 2025-2026 edition of the CAF Champions League promises to be fiercely contested. In addition to the quartet of Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly, Espérance de Tunis, and Pyramids, keep an eye on the latest CAF Confederation Cup winners, RS Berkane (Morocco).
With a roster packed with quality players, including Oussama Lamlioui—top scorer of the latest African Nations Championship (CHAN)—the Moroccan champions look well-equipped to chase their first ever CAF Champions League title.
