Ben Romdhane faces Espérance fans, a Figo-like scenario?

The marquee clash of the CAF Champions League 2025-2026 quarterfinals will see Espérance de Tunis square off against Egypt’s Al Ahly.

The first leg, set for March 14 at Stade Hamadi Agrebi in Radès, promises to be a particularly tense affair for Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane. The Cairo club’s midfielder will be facing his beloved former team for the first time.

The former Ferencváros TC player could be in for a tough night, as Espérance’s blood-and-gold faithful accuse him of betrayal for choosing to wear the colors of their historic rivals, after leaving the club in 2014 to pursue his career in Europe.

The Tunisian international risks being targeted by Espérance fans, who have already promised to give him the same hostile reception that Barcelona supporters gave Portuguese star Luis Figo upon his return to Camp Nou wearing the Real Madrid shirt.
