CAF launches investigation after serious security breaches in AS FAR vs Al Ahly clash
The Confederation of African Football CAF has announced the opening of a formal investigation into what it described as "serious security breaches" that occurred during two CAF Champions League group stage matches including the high profile clash between AS FAR Rabat & Al Ahly.
In brief statement released on Monday, CAF said:
“CAF strongly condemns the serious security violations that occurred in the CAF Champions League group stage matches between AS FAR vs Al Ahly and JS Kabylie vs Young Africans on 28 November. These incidents have been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for official investigation.”
The match in Rabat, which ended 1-1, saw sections of the AS FAR supporters throw dozens of plastic bottles onto the pitch both during stoppages and while Al Ahly pressed forward in dangerous situations.
CAF’s statement did not mention refereeing or match incidents focusing solely on the security violations.
