Cagliari forward Yael Trepy has emerged from a coma after a swimming pool accident in Sardinia, the club said in a statement on Tuesday evening.

The 20-year-old was admitted to intensive care on Sunday following the incident and had been placed on mechanical ventilation. He was extubated on Tuesday afternoon after optimal respiratory function was maintained.

He has regained full consciousness with no apparent neurological deficit.

Trepy remains in intensive care because of the recent extubation and his lung condition linked to inhalation syndrome.

In Cagliari’s youth set-up since 2023, the French forward joined the first-team group in February. He has made eight appearances and scored one goal.
