Calçade: No clear favourite for Libertadores, Flamengo, Palmeiras shaky

On the eve of the grand final of the CONMEBOL Libertadores 2025, commentator for ESPN and Disney+, Paulo Calçade, evaluated the current form of Flamengo and Palmeiras and stated that neither team comes in as the absolute favorite for the final scheduled for this Saturday (29), at 6 p.m., in Lima, Peru.

According to Calçade, despite the strong squads and the experience of Felipe Luís and Abel Ferreira, both giants are experiencing ups and downs this season.

I expected Flamengo and Palmeiras to be more stable in the final. It’s not the best moment for Felipe Luís’ and Abel Ferreira’s teams this season. But Fla is more confident despite some important injuries. Palmeiras is questioning where the football that thrashed LDU in that historic match at Allianz has gone. However, in a single match, and knowing the competence of the players and coaches involved, I can’t point to a favorite.

The final will be broadcast simultaneously by ESPN and Disney+, with special coverage that brought over 90 professionals to Peru. The match will be narrated by Rogério Vaughan, with commentary from Paulo Calçade and Zinho, in addition to the entire team of reporters and presenters dedicated to the event throughout the week.

The clash is worth more than just the continental title: Flamengo and Palmeiras are competing for the chance to become the first Brazilian club to win the Libertadores four times.
