Çalhanoğlu reaffirms Inter commitment: ‘Forget Turkey, I’m staying here’ | OneFootball

Hakan Çalhanoğlu has reiterated his commitment to Inter, brushing aside links to Turkey and setting his sights on reaching another Champions League final.

With quotes via calciomercato.com, the midfielder made clear his happiness in Milan, where he says he and his family have settled fully.

“I’m happy to be here, in Milan, where my wife and I have integrated brilliantly, and at Inter,” he said.

“The future doesn’t depend on me, but on the club, because there hasn’t been any contact over the renewal. I’m a footballer and I think about playing. But in five years I think we’ve done a lot of good things: eight trophies, two Champions League finals.”

Çalhanoğlu shrugs off Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray talk

The Turkey captain was dismissive of the persistent speculation linking him with a move home. “Honestly, I don’t understand why my name gets dragged into it,” he said.

“I’m the captain of the Turkish national team, so it can happen that I speak to club presidents who ask me for news or advice on other players. But my manager handles the market, if you have any doubts, you can ask him.”

Çalhanoğlu, whose contract runs until 2027, added that he still hopes to lift silverware with Inter, having twice fallen short in the Champions League final.: “This year we want to defend our trophies, then my dream goal is to play in another Champions League final. For me, we can compete with anyone, we are strong.”

He also welcomed the progress of Aleksandar Stanković, tipped as his eventual heir: “I’m happy he’s more mature and understands the game better, I think he can still learn from all of us.”
