Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is set to stay at the San Siro after a deal with Galatasaray was reportedly called off, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
The Turkish midfielder was tipped to leave Inter this summer after his infamous verbal spat with club captain Lautaro Martinez and president Beppe Marotta.
Galatasaray have shown concrete interest in the 31-year-old, who Inter were willing to part ways with for €30 million.
However, talks have now collapsed after the Turkish giants failed to meet Inter’s price tag.
The Nerazzurri are planning to solve Calhanoglu’s issue internally and keep him at the club.
His presence will be key for new manager Cristian Chivu in the quest to compete for major silverware.
The Nerazzurri could also extend Calhanoglu’s contract, which expires in 2027. An exit could be on the cards next summer if they fail to convince him to sign a new deal.
Calhanoglu has been a key cog in Inter’s midfield since his transfer from arch-rivals AC Milan, racking up 32 goals and 38 assists in 182 appearances.
He played a big part in Inter’s Scudetto triumph in 2023/24 and two runners-up finishes in the Champions League as a deep-lying midfielder.
Atalanta’s Ederson and Palmeiras’ Richard Rios have been earmarked as top targets to replace Calhanoglu.
The Nerazzurri also want to prevent midfielder Davide Frattesi from leaving this summer and are preparing an extension offer for him.
Inter have completed the signings of Luis Henrique, Petar Sucic and Ange Yoan-Bonny in this transfer window.
