The Boro defender has reacted on social media to Will Lankshear’s contribution on international duty.

Alongside his goalscoring exploits for Middlesbrough, Will Lankshear has been continuing to find the back of the net on international duty.

After a stellar start to his Boro career in the second tier, the former Oxford United frontman was called up to represent England’s U21's for the very first time, with the Three Lions undergoing qualifying for the next European Championships.

Of course, from Boro’s perspective, they will be hoping Lankshear comes out of that camp unscathed and raring to go for Championship action when it returns in the next couple of weeks, with the striker fundamental to Boro keeping up their early promotion charge.

But it’ll also be good to see that he’s keeping up his goalscoring antics, with Lankshear getting on the scoresheet once again to prove he can produce the goods for his national outfit and not just in domestic action.

Following on from his goal for the U21’s, Middlesbrough defender and teammate of Lankshear, Callum Brittain, reacted on social media to his latest achievement.

While Will Lankshear was so impressive by getting into double figures for goals on loan at struggling Oxford United last season, there were some question marks left about whether he could handle the pressure of leading the line for a promotion-chasing outfit.

But he has answered those emphatically in the early stages of this season, settling in immediately and being the goalscoring force Boro need in order to end such a lengthy exodus from the Premier League.

His stall was set from the outset when he netted a brace on his home Championship debut against Lincoln City, before notching yet another on home soil against former employers West Brom.

Another strike away at QPR took his tally to five goals from as many Championship games in a Middlesbrough shirt, while he also netted in a 2-2 draw against Millwall at the Riverside Stadium before the international break.

Not to mention he has also notched goals in both rounds of the Carabao Cup against Wrexham and Doncaster Rovers, meaning from the 11 games he’s played in all competitions so far, he has eight goals to his name.

After his outstanding start to the campaign with Middlesbrough, there’s no signs of it slowing down on the basis of his first contribution for the England U21’s, with Lankshear also showing his goalscoring prowess on the international stage.

Aiming to qualify for the European Championships, England closed in on that feat, securing a 4-2 victory over Kazakhstan, despite suffering quite the scare from their opponents.

At Molineux, Lankshear was brought on from the bench for his debut in the 69th minute to replace Divin Mubama, and the Boro frontman managed to seal all three points in stoppage time with an excellent sliding finish, most definitely pushing himself into Lee Carsley's thoughts for a regular starting role.

England’s other goals came from an Ali Turganov own goal, Josh Acheampong and Max Alleyne, leaving England top of Group D - six points ahead of Slovakia with two games remaining as they look to win the title for the third successive time.

After getting on the scoresheet, Middlesbrough celebrated Will Lankshear’s efforts on their Instagram, letting Boro supporters know in a post that Lankshear had got on the scoresheet for the England U21’s.

In their post, it read: “A goal for Will on his England Under-21s debut 🔥

“The Boro striker was subbed on in a 4-2 win over Kazakhstan.”

Some of his colleagues at Middlesbrough will have undoubtedly seen the post about his goal, and in particular defender and teammate Callum Brittain, who liked it, showing his support and jubilation for Lankshear showing his worth for the national youth side.

When Will Lankshear signed on the dotted line for Middlesbrough this summer, this is exactly the type of start he would have been dreaming of making.

After getting important loan experience in the second tier with both West Brom and Oxford United, it’s been enough to see him, at the age of 21, transform into one of the hottest prospects in the Championship, which has since helped him earn an international call-up and showcase how much he has progressed and developed in such a short space of time.

Possessing the physical attributes and that ruthless edge when presented with chances, Middlesbrough have such a talented forward on their hands, and can begin to be excited about where the club can go with such a clinical finisher leading the line.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Lankshear continue to run riot when the second tier kicks off once again, with opposition defenders bound to be fearful about the damage he can do each week.
