Celtic captain Callum McGregor has dismissed speculation linking him with a reunion with Brendan Rodgers in Saudi. The 32-year-old has been linked with a shock switch to reunite with Rodgers at Al-Qadsiah.

McGregor, who has made 555 appearances for Celtic, has been linked with a summer transfer to the Saudi Pro League with some questioning whether the captain may be weighing up his options, especially as the club appears to be in turmoil.

However, following Celtic’s 2-2 draw away to Hearts at Tynecastle, McGregor confirmed that he was determined to remain at Celtic and make amends for the disjointed campaign.

“No, no, I’m here.

“(I am)Even more determined, even more,” he said. “Because of what’s happened. We’ve had a difficult spell, we’re used to winning, then things don’t go your way. “So, now you have to show everyone that you want to be a winner and you want to stay and you want to fight and you want to make the club successful.”

McGregor would likely be in line for a sizeable payday if he were to follow Rodgers, John Kennedy & Co in Saudi. However, it is clear that he is committed to Celtic and bringing success back to the club after a difficult season. The club need to support McGregor and Martin O’Neill, who have openly called for the team to be strengthened. This mirrors the summer in which McGregor and Rodgers called for reinforcements to be brought into the building.

Hopefully there will be some quality additions to the squad before the end of the window and McGregor is given support.
