Three incredible Celtic goals gave Martin O’Neill’s men a 3-0 victory over Austrian champions LASK in the first leg of the UCL play-off round at Celtic Park last night.
A fine strike from Benjamin Nygren set the tone, before Camilo Durán got in on the act with a screamer to give Celtic a two-goal lead at half time.
Durán added another sensational finish in the second half to put Celtic 3-0 up and give the Bhoys a healthy lead ahead of next week’s return leg in Linz.
Speaking to CelticPlayer after last night’s victory, captain Callum McGregor reflected on a brilliant home result for the Hoops.
“You always know these games are really tough, against really good opponents.” McGregor said. “We wanted a big performance and a big result, and that’s what we got.
“You can see what the players gave to the game, the running for each other, the backwards pressing.
‘We want a big commitment to the team and to make a difference at this level. And full praise for the players, they delivered tonight.’
“You see big Kasper Høgh, you see Camilo Durán running 90 metres back up the pitch after he’s scored two goals to help the team. That’s what we want.
“It’s now only half-time in the tie. We can feel good tonight, but tomorrow is about recovery and we go again next week.”
The Hoops captain also singled Camilo Durán out for praise after the Colombian’s double under the Paradise lights.
He added: “He was outstanding. His two goals, obviously, everyone will see and give him plaudits.
“But it was the work-rate, the intensity, the backwards pressing. That’s commitment to the team and that’s what we want and demand from each other.”
