The singer-songwriter and the midfielder had struck up a friendship during O'Hare's time with the Sky Blues
New Sheffield United signing Callum O’Hare has revealed Tom Grennan’s has sent his well wishes, despite leaving the singer’s believed Coventry City this summer.
The pair’s friendship grew during the midfielder’s five seasons in the Midlands, in which he helped the Sky Blues to promotion from League One, as well as last season’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
O’Hare even joined the songwriter [pictured] on stage in 2022, as he made an appearance at the Godiva Festival which was held in the city.
But despite O’Hare leaving the Coventry Building Society Arena for Bramall Lane this summer, the 26-year-old has admitted the two are still on speaking terms, apart from when the two sides do battle next season.
The transfer saga surrounding O’Hare was one of the most high-profile in the EFL this summer, with the creative midfielder turning down the chance to extend his stay with Mark Robins’ side earlier in the year.
As a result, the former Aston Villa man was free to find a new club of his choosing once his contract elapsed at the end of June, with a number of sides interested in acquiring his services, including newly promoted Premier League side Southampton.
It may have come as a surprise then, that O’Hare opted to join Chris Wilder at Sheffield United this summer with the Blades looking to regroup after dropping out of the top flight after just one season on the biggest stage.
But despite the fact that he has joined a divisional rival, Grennan has still wished the former Cov player well for the season ahead, as he looks to hit the ground running at his new club.
“He’s wished me good luck and told me he hopes it all goes well. We’re definitely still friends. That hasn’t changed.”
“We get on really well and we’ll always catch-up when we can and stay in touch.”
“I know Tom wants me to succeed and he’ll be backing me all the way. Well, apart from when we’re up against Cov that is.”
There will be plenty of eyes on O’Hare when the new season gets underway next month, with the playmaker likely to be the lynchpin for the Blades going forward in the upcoming campaign.
With a number of key personnel departing the Yorkshire side over the summer, Wilder has a rebuilding job on his hands, which has been hampered by the impending takeover of the club in recent weeks and months.
It may only be early days in his career with United, but the early signs are already looking promising for the former Coventry City man, with a dominant display in a recent pre-season friendly against Harrogate Town.
In a sort of performance that Sky Blues’ fans will know only too well, the 26-year-old was a bundle of energy in the middle of the park, with a number of mazy runs and incisive passes that cut through the opposition defence.
It was another one of those scything slaloms that created himself the opportunity to grab his first goal for the club, as a one-two with Anis Slimane fell back into his path and he managed to slot home.
It may only be early days, but things already look to be clicking into place for the playmaker in Yorkshire, and if he stays fit he could prove to be more devastating than ever in the year to come.
