Calvin Stengs strikes on return as hosts make winning start | OneFootball

AZ beat ADO Den Haag 2-0 at the AFAS Stadion as Ro Daal and Calvin Stengs secured a confident opening to the Eredivisie season.

The breakthrough came in the 61st minute when Daal steered a right-footed finish into the bottom left from the centre of the box.

Soon after coming on, Stengs doubled the lead from close range, turning in Kees Smit's pass (68.).

Earlier in the first half, an Elijah Dijkstra effort was ruled out after a VAR review.

Kilian Nikiema kept ADO Den Haag in it with smart stops from Weslley Patati early on and Mexx Meerdink before the interval. At the other end, Jari de Busser went largely untested as the visitors failed to register a shot on target.

AZ registered four shots on target from 12 attempts and controlled phases of possession. ADO Den Haag managed 10 attempts but couldn't work the goalkeeper.
