Cameroon have booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations where they will face hosts Morocco after a 2-1 win over South Africa with Junior Tchamadeu and Christian Kofane scoring for their side.
South Africa adopted an aggressive stance early in the game, pushing high and penning Cameroon in while creating good opportunities to open the scoring. The best chance came after a long ball from defence Che Malone wasn't able to cut it out handed a gift to Relebohile Mofokeng, who broke into the area but shot wide.
Shortly after, the South Africans managed to score through Burnley's Lyle Foster, after a cross-shot from the left but the assistant flagged offside as confirmed by VAR.
Cameroon's response was slow but in the 34th minute, Carlos Baleba took a shot from the edge of the box, the ball deflected en route and fell to Tchamadeu who, unmarked, finished past Ronwen Williams.
The lead in the score gave more confidence to the Cameroonians, who returned even more intense for the second half, pressed the South African ball exit and were rewarded.
In the first few minutes, after a ball recovered in the attacking field, early substitute Mahamadou Nagida received it on the left, looked up and crossed precisely to Bayer Leverkusen teenager Kofane, who headed firmly, leaving no chance for the goalkeeper.
South Africa tried to react immediately but ran into the strong marking of Cameroon. Teboho Mokoena came close to scoring from a free kick, but Devis Epassy made a fine sace.
In the final minutes, Evidence Makgopa managed to pull one back for Bafana Bafana but there wasn't enough time for an equaliser with Cameroon progressing to the next round.
