Another twist in the ongoing saga between Fécafoot and the Ministry of Sports in Cameroon. The upcoming federation elections have been suspended.
While Fécafoot was deep in preparations to renew its leadership through elections, the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education (MINSEP) announced on Thursday the suspension of the electoral process, which was initially scheduled to take place between August and November 2025.
The ministry reproaches the body led by Samuel Eto'o for launching the electoral process without prior approval or notification of its supervisory authority (MINSEP). This move goes against the usual practice established for all sports federations. "The launch of the electoral process by FECAFOOT without informing the supervisory authority, as is customary for all National Civil Sports Federations, undermines the good cooperation that exists between the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education (MINSEP) and the entire National Sports Movement," the statement explained.
In a letter revealed by the Cameroonian press, MINSEP cited several issues: legal non-compliance, the arbitrary suspension of potential candidates, repeated amendments to the federation's statutes, the unjustified exclusion of clubs from certain championships despite their compliance, and the creation of "fictitious" clubs to inflate the electorate in favor of the current leadership.
