Cameroon fell to Cape Verde on Tuesday during the 8th round of qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. Facing the press, Marc Brys offered his explanations.
Unbeaten since Marc Brys took charge—13 matches in total—Cameroon stumbled on Tuesday against Cape Verde (1-0) during the 8th round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. It’s a defeat with serious consequences, as the Blue Sharks, riding a wave of euphoria, take a nearly decisive step toward a historic first-ever World Cup qualification.
Marc Brys was candid at the final whistle. "They played with a lot of determination. They supported each other. Unfortunately, at one point, doubt crept into our team—I don't know why. In the second half, we played better than in the first. We tried to put pressure on our opponents and create chances. We lost, and that's football. Cape Verde managed to capitalize during their strong spell, something we couldn't do." he stated.
With this defeat, Cameroon sees direct qualification slipping away. Now trailing the group leader by four points with two matches to go, the Indomitable Lions will have to fight hard to secure a spot among the best runners-up.
